about

1997, German

Cosimo Gottschall’s work explores the relationship between cultural narratives, materials and techniques, drawing inspiration from a multidisciplinary education and international residencies.

Born in Cologne and educated in Germany and the UK (International Baccalaureate), he holds a BA in Engineering from TU Berlin. In 2025–26, he is deepening his material exploration through a postgraduate Master’s in Ceramics and Glass at the Royal College of Art in London.

Self‑directed residencies in Fuerteventura, Morocco and Japan have profoundly shaped his sensibility: Fuerteventura’s volcanic rocks revealed the raw force of earth and fire; Morocco’s desert landscapes inspired wonder and stillness; Japanese philosophies taught him to embrace simplicity and imperfection as integral to his studio practice.

Cosimo’s sculptures, paintings and photography invite viewers to reflect on how humanity, materials and the natural world continuously shape—and are shaped by—one another.
